So, how do you take a ride on the Grand Trunk Western Railroad today?

That's easy…visit the Durand Union Station Model Railroad Engineers layout located in the old mail/storage room at Durand Union Station!

Step back in time as you explore scale models of the Durand area railroad scene, as it existed between 1940 and 1960. The focal point of this interactive and permanent exhibit of the Michigan Railroad History Museum is a scale model of Durand Union Station. It is located at the famous "diamond" on the layout, just as its full-scale counterpart is located at the crossing of Canadian National's Chicago Division main line, the Great Lakes Central Railroad and the Huron & Eastern Railroad.

The model of the Depot, constructed by model railroader Neal Fulkerson of Owosso, won first place in the structures category of the North Central Region, National Model Railroad Association. A second major structure, built by Mr. Fulkerson, is a scale model of the 360-degree roundhouse once located in Durand. The actual round house was demolished in November of 1961 but you can still visit and explore the roundhouse and see what function it provided on the layout.

Durand Union Station Model Railroad Engineers promote the art of model railroading while educating visitors about railroading, past and present. The model railroad is open and trains are running every Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We can be open Sundays and during the week from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM upon request.
